THIS IS THE END AND IT'S STILL LIVING
My practice investigates the space between mechanical process and subjective meaning-making, using algorithmic intervention to interrogate the family as a site of cultural memory, drawing on my father's archive of photographs that documents my Greek Cypriot and Irish immigrant family settling into post-war suburban London.
I use a structured, rules-based system that converts these images into constrained colour palettes determined by algorithmic logic. The final pieces do not sit comfortably in any single moment or place. They are fractured, recoloured, and reconstructed through a systematic process that strips them of their certainty whilst simultaneously saturating them with an artificial vibrancy that never existed in the original. The vibrant colours, the awkward joinings, the fragmented images, and the subtle misalignments convey a sense of dislocation and non-belonging.
